Illustration Commission for Profile Books
This year 2026 I had the pleasure of creating the cover illustration for Grasslands by John Wright, published by Profile Books.
Designing a wraparound book cover is so interesting, a chance in this instance to research the natural world, different types of grasses and the beetles, bees and moths that live on them.
The book looks at the life within Britain’s grasslands—places that are often overlooked but full of activity. I wanted the illustration to reflect that, showing a sense of quiet detail and the richness of the natural world.
Designing the wraparound cover meant thinking about how the image would move across the whole book. I focused on creating a continuous landscape that feels natural and balanced, so the front and back connect as one environment.
It was a genuine pleasure to have the opportunity to design a cover for a book by such a renowned nature writer. Projects like this are a reminder of how visual storytelling can echo and amplify the quiet complexity found in the natural world.
