Wildflowers

June and July have been all about exploring the boggy habitats of Exmoor. Just taking a walk and sitting to draw has been such a relief from the news, a time to feel safe, nourished and enjoy nature. I have created two new prints, one about our native Orchids and the other the humble Bramble.

I can’t decide whether there are more wildflowers this year or whether I am becoming more observant. I have ventured through quite a few prickly Gorse hedges only to find myself in a boggy or marsh area. The great swirling clumps of Purple Moor Grass rise up from the damp dark ground, frogs leap and I am suspicious of resting snakes where I cant see clearly my footing.

Here I first noticed the creamy flags of Cotton Grass and then in between the delicate spire of the lilac and white Heath Orchid.

I have simplified the colours of each scene and designed fresh graphic plant shapes to create a Modern Botanical Print for your home.
