Ray of Sunshine

On a sunny winters day I walked along a countryside lane, looking over a hedge, a ray of sunshine burst from the clouds illuminating and dancing across the view.

Ray of Sunshine linocut print

Startled pigeons flew across the scene while a group of birds wheeled high in the sky. I decided to represent the far-away clouds by thousands of tiny shapes, dots of light and patterning strewn together. It gives a sense of movement, and the twinkling of light as it filters through the many tiny shapes.

I have been planning to work larger in 2020 and this is the first print that I have made on 70x50 cm paper.

I enjoyed scaling up the carving marks and creating interest across the whole surface. It was more physically demanding, both carving and printing, on a bigger scale but I am so happy with the result and impact.

In order to ensure a stable surface I have printed on a 350gsm heavyweight paper for the first time, lovely feel and soft finish.

Print available in my shop.
