My new painting ‘Pussy willow’ began on Exmoor on the bleakest and coldest of days in March. The fresh wind sent the sheep into the hollow of the valley to graze protected. I sat on a step over gate and looked up into the cool grey sky and noticed the branches of Pussy willow above me. The buds of this Willow begin silvery and soft, no leaves yet, then they burst in a fat yellow drop of blossom. Seeing the waving blossom cheered me.
This painting sings with the soft colours of glowing yellow, silver grey and light olive.
